Welcome

The Club was founded in 1981 with a group of local parents getting together to provide “Football for All” and this remains a very strong principal of the club today. We have over 250 players signed with our club from the Under 6′s to the Under 16′s, this includes several girls in the younger “mini-soccer” age groups.

We provide qualified coaches in every age group, and each coach will hold current FA certifications in Coaching, First Aid, Child Protection and will also have completed a police background check.

All Weather Pitch Progress Update!

During the Christmas holidays you may have picked up from BBC South Today television, Radio Sussex, Uckfield News or Uckfield FM, the wonderful news that we have been awarded £100,000 for our All Weather Pitch development. We put in a bid to Sport England’s Inspired Facilities programme and were delighted to be successful.

As you may know, a group of key stakeholders made up of UGJFC, Uckfield Community College, Uckfield Town Council, Wealden District Council, East Sussex County Council, rugby and hockey clubs have been meeting fortnightly since May 2010 and working to create a permanent legacy for East Sussex to commemorate the 2012 Olympics. If we achieve our aims, the pitch will be used by local schools, including primary schools during the day and will be used by the community in the evenings, weekends and holidays in a similar way to the Leisure Centre. We have ambitious sports development plans that have two key aims:

We support “AWSUP” the All Weather Sport for Uckfield Project

For several months a Working Group – comprising representatives of certain local sports, of local Councils, of local education establishments, and of Freedom leisure – has been planning for the provision of an all weather sports pitch in Uckfield.

The pitch would be installed in the grounds of Uckfield Community Technology College and would be available for use by the local community as well as the College during term time. It is hoped it would be ready for use by the end of 2012 as part of the celebrations for the London Olympics next year.

Gordon Buckland, Chairman of Uckfield Grasshoppers FC and Working Group member, said “whilst an all weather pitch will be a valuable resource for the College in this location, I want to stress that the plans have been drawn up for this to be community asset. On most evenings, at the weekends and during school holidays, it will be available for local clubs. This resource will be a very useful contribution to promoting good health for the people of Uckfield and confirm the town as a centre for sporting excellence”
